Kousalya is 9 years old and is in 4th grade at the Isha Vidhya School in Erode, a small town in rural Tamil Nadu in southern India. Kousalya’s father is a motor mechanic and her mother is a housewife. They first enrolled Kousalya at Isha Vidhya in 2007, when she was entering 2nd grade. Kousalya’s last school was a Tamil-medium school where English was only taught to older students. This hasn’t slowed down Kousalya, though. Not only has she taken on learning the new language, she received an 80% in her last English class at Isha Vidhya! Recently, she surprised her teachers when, after winning a painting competition, she talked about her experience in English in front of the entire class! Kousalya’s dream is join the Indian Administrate Services once she finishes her studies.
Education for talented and hardworking children like Kousalya is made possible because of the scholarships provided by Isha Vidhya to rural children whose parents cannot afford to send them to school. Make a donation today and support a child like Kousalya!
