Chandru’s family doesn’t have to worry about him any more
posted March 24, 2011
Dear shannon, Laurent, Tim, and Eileen,
Five year old Chandru studies in Upper Kindergarten in a school run by Isha Vidhya in Tamil Nadu. His father is an unskilled laborer who works for daily wages. If he is lucky enough to find work every day, he earns about Rs.2500 ($ 56) per month, which is barely sufficient to meet the needs of the four member family. However, most of the time, the father finds it difficult to find work, and the family often goes without proper food for days of end.
Chandru, consequently, is highly anemic, and the hunger makes it difficult for him to concentrate on his work. Your donations, Shannon, Laurent, Tim and Eileen will enable Isha Vidhya to provide a hot, nutritious meal to Chandru every day. This will not only ensure that the boy doesn’t have to starve if his father doesn’t find work, it also ensures that his family sends him to school regularly.
Chandru and his older brother (who studies in grade 2 in the same school as he does), live in a small hut in a village near Vizhupuram. Public transportation is virtually non-existent in the area, making it almost impossible for Chandru’s parents to send him to school. Isha Vidhya, therefore, provides transportation to get Chandru to school.
Your generous donations, Laurent, Cherie, Kowsilliya, Mary Ellen and Jim will enable Isha Vidhya to provide a year of transportation for Chandru, thereby ensuring that he attends school everyday.
Thank you all, for ensuring that Chandru’s stomach is full, and he is able to attend school.
