Kuyili\’s determination shines through despite poverty and pain
posted February 14, 2013
Thank you for coming together to support Kuyili for an entire year. She has just entered grade 2 at a school run by Isha Vidhya in Tamil Nadu.
Kuyili’s father, Sankar, works as a bonded laborer in Kerala, and earns approximately Rs. 150 ($ 3) a day, which is not enough to support the family. Her mother, Sudha, cannot go to work, because she has five children to look after. To make things even worse, Kuyili (along with her sister, Archana) was severely affected by fire accident, and she suffered burns on both hands and on her head. The family has to spend money on her medical treatment too. Despite not having any extra money, her parents are determined to give all their children a good education. Kuyili and her younger sister are enrolled in a school run by Isha Vidhya and her older siblings are in a government school.
Thank you, Alet and Claire, Rajesh, Phoebe and Adeline, for providing an entire year of nutritious school meals to Kuyili. Her family lives much below the poverty line, and there is often no food in the house for several days. By providing her with a school lunch, you will make sure that Kuyili will get at least one good meal every day. Each of you is like a savior to little Kuyili.
Thank you Puja and Abdul for coming together to provide two sets of school uniforms to Kuyili. Her parents cannot afford new clothes for her and her siblings, and it is only because of your generosity that she can come to school looking neat and tidy.
Thank you, Swapna, Brojen, Ajay, Krishnan and Shweta for coming together to provide an entire year of transportation to bring Kuyili to school. If not for your generosity, it would be impossible for her parents to leave her at school every day, and she would not be able to get the benefit of a good education.
Thank you, All, for gifting a bright future to Kuyili
