Sara and Ameya,

This cute little one is Nirmala, and she is in 1st grade at Isha Vidhya. Nirmala is doing very well in her studies and she also dances very well.

She has one sister and one brother, and her parents support them as daily laborers.  They earn approxiately 2000 rupees (~$45) per month, which is not enough to manage food and clothing for all of them.

Without your support of Isha Vidhya, Nirmala would have had to stop going to school as they can not afford to pay for her studies.  She is a very bright child and  education should not be denied just because of money. Thank you Sara and Ameya for your support!

Kayalvizhi is 6 years old and is in second grade at Isha Vidhya, a school located in south India.  She and her younger brother are supported by their parents who both work as daily laborers.  They earn just 3000 rupees ($60) a month which makes it impossible for them to support her studies.

Kayalvizhi loves to dance and play sports. She is a very good student and is thrilled to be able to attend school thanks to the generous support of Digvijay, Josh, Ameya (2 months!), Hardik (2 months!) and Amit (6 months!).  Thank you all for providing Kayalvizhi this wonderful opportunity!

Thank you too, Laurent, for donating two sets of school uniforms to Kayalvizhi. She is determined to take good care of them and will wear them with pride.

Mavin is four years old and lives with his younger sister, parents and grandparents. His father and grandfather are farm workers and they each earn just $55 (Rs. 2000) per month. Feeding six people two meals a day on this income is an extremely difficult task. Therefore, it is hard for Mavin’s family to make education a priority.

With the support of Neil, Mavin will start school this year, and can look forward to a high quality education that would otherwise by completely out of reach. Mavin enjoys school, and is a studious boy. He particularly enjoys drawing and painting. Thank you Neil for giving Mavin hope!

Vedhasri is a 7 year old girl studying in first grade.  She is very good in her studies and also enjoys playing sports.  She has one elder brother and one younger brother and they live together with their parents and grandparents.  The combined income for their family is just 3500 Rupees per month (~$70).

The family finds it very difficult to support 7 people at home on that amount.  As a result, it is hard to make education a priority.  Thanks to the generous support of Amit, Laura, Strand, Jacob, Vasikaran, Arvind, Erica, Julie and Rama, Vedhasri will be able to attend Isha Vidhya for a year!

Sachin is 6 years old and is in first grade. His father is an auto driver and earns only Rs.3000 (US 64.4), which is insufficient to support his family of six, who live in Tamil Nadu, India. Last year, Sachin’s family was forced to move in with relatives because of finances, but thanks to the generous support of Elaine, Sachin will be able to attend Isha Vidhya this year!  Sachin loves dancing as well as his other academic pursuits.

Mohamed is a 6 year old boy in first grade. He has two siblings and lives with his extended family. His family’s monthly income is Rs.3000 (US 64.40), which is barely enough to feed the 7 people at home. Mohamed is becoming something of a sports star among his friends and he particularly enjoys football and cricket. Also, he is praised by his teachers for being an attentive fast learner. Mohamed is very thankful for the support he has received from Elaine!

Gaja is a 6 year old girl, studying in second grade. Her father works as a day laborer and earns an irregular income, which is just enough to keep his family of four fed and housed in Tamil Nadu, India. Gaja enjoys learning and wants to become a doctor so that she can help others! She has a knack for learning languages and is quickly learning English. Thanks to Elaine, Gaja has the opportunity to study academics for a year and is well on her way to achieving her goal of becoming a doctor.

Anushree is 5 years old, and working hard, yet having fun, in kindergarten. Both of Anushree’s parents are day laborers and earn a very small and irregular income, which is just enough to support their family of five, who live in Tamil Nadu, India.  Anushree is a fast learner, and she has a passion for painting. Anushree now has the opportunity to go to school for a year thanks to the generous support of Elaine!
