Kousalya is a great English student!

Kousalya

Kousalya is 9 years old and is in 4th grade at the Isha Vidhya School in Erode, a small town in rural Tamil Nadu in southern India.  Kousalya’s father is a motor mechanic and her mother is a housewife. They first enrolled Kousalya at Isha Vidhya in 2007, when she was entering 2nd grade. Kousalya’s last school was a Tamil-medium school where English was only taught to older students.  This hasn’t slowed down Kousalya, though.  Not only has she taken on learning the new language, she received an 80% in her last English class at Isha Vidhya! Recently, she surprised her teachers when, after winning a painting competition, she talked about her experience in English in front of the entire class! Kousalya’s dream is join the Indian Administrate Services once she finishes her studies.

Education for talented and hardworking children like Kousalya is made possible because of the scholarships provided by Isha Vidhya to rural children whose parents cannot afford to send them to school.  Make a donation today and support a child like Kousalya!

Saravana wants to become a doctor!

Saravana Kumar is 10 years old and has been with Isha Vidhya for just over a year. In 2008, Saravana missed a year of school because of a head injury but he was encouraged to rejoin the school by his eldest brother, who also works as a driver at Isha Vidhya. Saravan’s father passed away a few years ago and his mother is a daily wage earner at an oil mill. Because Saravana’s family makes very little money, it is generous donations that allow him to continue his students. Since joining Isha Vidhya, Saravana has shown great progress and potential. His dream when he completes his studies is to become a doctor! Thank you Ben for your generous support of Saravana and Isha Vidhya!
